Golf Course Lawsuit Tees Off

Posted: Updated:
Kennewick, WA- The City of Kennewick is on trial, and if it loses, taxpayers could end up paying the price.

Attorneys have begun searching for jurors to decide whether the city reneged on a deal with the owner of the Columbia Park Golf Course.

Gary Long Junior is suing for five million dollars.  Long claims the city had given him exclusive rights to build an R-V park near the park entrance.

But Long says the city backed out because it thought it could find a better deal with another developer.

Attorneys representing the city say the city backed out because of public opposition to the R-V park.

Taxpayers could be held liable if the golf course owner wins, because the city's insurance policy doesn't cover breach of contract.
