YAKIMA--On the last filing day for candidates to run for public office, one familiar name stood out.
Yakima School District Superintendent Ben Soria will run for City Council.
Soria filed Friday afternoon for an at-large position. He'll be challenging current council member Bill Lover, along with T.J. Davis and Mitchell Smith.
Lover is finishing up his first term on the council.
KNDO spoke to Soria on the phone about why he chose to run. He said he's invested in the Yakima community and plans to stay here.
Soria is retiring as superintendent at the end of this school year.
