YAKIMA--A 46-year old Yakima man is dead after crashing into a power pole.
Yakima County Coroner Jack Hawkins told KNDO the driver, Duran Ellingsworth, was only a few blocks from his house when he crashed.
Police think Duran Ellingsworth might have had a medical issue that made him lose control, and crash into a power pole on South 16th Avenue.
Police said Ellingsworth was heading north around 11:15 Saturday night when he crossed two lanes and hit the pole.
Police said Ellingsworth was going about the speed limit, which is 35 miles per hour, but he was not wearing a seat belt.
One man who lives near the crash scene said he heard all the noise and didn't know what it was at first.
"We heard like this loud crunching sound," Jesse Walker said. "There was a lot of smoke so I didn't know what it was. I thought it was some gunshots, and then we saw the car crashed right there."
Walker said Ellingsworth was trapped in the car. Paramedics had to pry him out.
County Coroner Jack Hawkins said Ellingsworth died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
He had head and internal injuries.
Hawkins will do an autopsy tomorrow afternoon to figure out why Ellingsworth crashed.
