Kennewick, WA- The Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce wants you to, "go local."
The chamber has launched a summer-long campaign to encourage consumers to spend their money with local businesses, instead of shopping out of the area or on line.
More than one thousand businesses throughout the Tri-Cities will have the "go local" logo in their windows.
Chamber President Lori Mattson says one goal of the campaign is to get consumers to compare the shipping costs on line with the deals they can get locally.
"If you're shopping somewhere and they have this Go Local poster, ask the business owner, say, 'I'd really like to buy this here, but I could buy it for this on line,' and see if the business owner will meet that price."
Mattson says the recession inspired the campaign. She says consumer spending in the Tri-Cities has been flat so far this year.
Starting next week, you'll start seeing the "go local" T-V ad. The campaign will continue throughout summer and the chamber plans special promotions with several businesses.
