Firefighters ask People to be Extra Careful with Fire

Posted: Updated:

SELAH--Firefighters are still watching an area where a brush fire started in Selah to ensure it doesn't start up again.

Crews are cautioning people to not use flammable items.

Two boys playing with fireworks started Wednesday's fire.  Fireworks are illegal in most parts of Yakima County.

Selah Fire Chief Jerry Davis urges people to be careful and avoid playing with fire.  He said conditions are more conducive to brush fires getting out of control than they typically are in June.

"What [people] do makes them liable for damages to other people's property or to power poles, anything like that," Davis said.  "Fire can get away real easy right now, and we recommend people if they haven't got their control burns done, they shouldn't do it any more now."

Davis said people should wait until October to do any more control burning.
