KENNEWICK, Wash.-- The number of Canada geese in Washington has been decreasing for the past seven years, and the Fish and Wildlife Department wants to know why.
Biologists are teaming up with volunteers to capture and band up to 500 Canada geese in the state. The Tri-Cities is just one place where the geese will be caught and tagged.
Biologists say that over the past seven years, there have been fewer nesting birds in parts of eastern Washington. However, there have been more complaints about geese inside city limits. Department staff are going to track the birds and hope to get some answers. They're also asking for hunters to report it if they kill one that's been banded.
Geese will also be tagged in Wenatchee, Chelan, Yakima, and Spokane.
