Kennewick, WA- More than 800 families are about to lose their irrigation water for a week.
The Kennewick Irrigation District will shut down the Badger East Canal starting tomorrow to repair a stretch of 900 feet that is seeping water.
Homes west of Shockley Road will have to relay on neighborhood reserve ponds while KID crews patch the leaks.
"The water spots just keeps on getting bigger," says KID spokeswoman Beth Smith. "So we just decided to make sure everything is safe we should go ahead and shut it down and make the fix since we're just into the season."
Workers will let the canal dry over the weekend, and then line the canal with concrete mixed with fiber. KID says if everything goes right, crews will begin refilling the canal on Thursday and homes in the area should have their water back on by Friday.
