One of Yakima's busiest streets will be slowing down Saturday night.
The fifth annual "Cruisin' the Ave." takes place on Yakima Avenue this weekend to welcome summer. It throws back to a tradition that's been in Yakima for years but stopped in the mid-1990s for safety concerns. It came in 2005 thanks to efforts by the community and city council.
Joe Mann of Ron's Coin & Collectibles is one of the local business leaders who helped bring the tradition back to the city. He says it's a great way for residents to spend time in downtown.
"It's fun, it's a neat activity," he said. "You can get to see your neighbors and watch the fancy cars go by, it's just a lot of fun."
Cars can begin cruising on Yakima avenue starting at 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. For more information, contact the city's Community Relations department.
