KENNEWICK, Wash-- Construction around the blue bridge has been causing a constant traffic crunch but now some of that may be coming to an end.
Starting Saturday morning the new roundabout connecting Columbia Drive to State Route 240 and Highway 395 will be open.
KNDU talked to the department of transportation project engineer. He says it was not supposed to be finished until Monday. They were hopeful it would be open this evening, but the rain this morning slowed them down.
The northbound exit off Highway 395 has been closed for almost a month.
"Opening this thing up is great, but a lot of work has taken place the last three weeks with our contractors and our sub-contractors. a lot of dedication and coordination," said Moe Davari, WSDOT.
Davari says crews from KLB Construction and sub-contractors have been working around the clock seven days a week. He also says the project is five million dollars under budget and still ahead of schedule.
The entire project is expected to be finished at the end of this year.
