Grandview Man In Serious Condition After Car Wreck

SUNNYSIDE--A 27-year old Grandview man is in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center after an ugly accident in Sunnyside Friday afternoon.

Washington State Patrol Officer G. E. Miller told KNDO that Juan Aguirre-Alvarez of Grandview was driving drunk on Van Belle Road around 3:30 p.m. Friday when he blew a stop sign.

Marcela Perez of Grandview was headed south on Bethany Road.  Miller said she t-boned Aguirre-Alvarez's car, flipping it over.

Perez was treated at Sunnyside Hospital and released.  Aguirre-Alvarez had to be transported to Harborview.

"We have the odor of intoxicants on the driver of the green Plymouth [Aguirre]," Miller said.  "We have empty containers, we have Corona beers [scattered] throughout the collision scene."

Miller said drivers often miss stop signs in rural areas like the Van Belle/Bethany Road intersection.  He said accidents like this are an unfortunate but common scene.
