Fatal fire in Spokane Valley
SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - Spokane Valley Fire Department was responded at 4:47 am Saturday, to a reported fall, while the crews were en-route the neighbor who reported the fall, had called a second time reporting that the apartment door was hot.
The apartment fire was located at 107 S. Tschirley, The Tshirley Crossing Apartments. Upon the crews arrival, it was reported that the neighbors heard the occupant still inside. Firefighters made a rapid entry into the apartment through a window. While searching through the heavy smoke, firefighters found the resident had been overcome by the smoke. The initial crew and paramedics began medical treatment on the front lawn, and the patient was transported by AMR to Sacred Heart Medical Center.
Fire crews extinguished the fire within five minutes, but the apartment received heavy smoke damage. Later Saturday morning, the patient died due to injuries sustained from the smoke and heat.
The victim was reported to be a 64-year-old female who lived in the home alone. Her name is being withheld while family members are notified.
The fire remains under investigation by the Spokane Valley Fire Department, the victim's cause of death remains under investigation by the Medical Examiner.
No other injuries were reported. The resident's cat did survive the fire.
