Neighbors Still Talking About SR-240 Brush Fire

KENNEWICK, Wash-- One day after a brush fire near State Route 240 and neighbors are still talking about how big it got.

Benton County fire leaders say it sparked around 8:30 pm. They believe it started from a train near Yelm St. and Highway 395.

It took 16 fire engines to get the blaze out. Smoke made it very hard for drivers to see on the streets and highways nearby.

One witness who has lived on Canal Dr. for almost 30 years says in the past there have been fires, but none that big.

"This happened quite a few years ago. I have just never seen it so big. It was all the way down clear on the other side of the viaduct," said Audrey Simmelink.

At one point roads were blocked off, some neighbors were forced to evacuate. Firefighters say no one was injured and only a shed was damaged.
