Old Town Idol Rocks Union Gap

UNION GAP--If you drove past Ahtanum Youth Park Sunday, you probably heard some of our own American Idol contestants!

Twenty-six finalists in three categories competed for the grand prize:  $1,000.

Several contestants were fresh from the "Yakima's Got Talent" competition.

We asked one would-be Idol if the Yakima Valley's becoming a musical hotbed.

"Haha! I'm not really sure," Stephanie Herron of Moxee said.  "You're going to get a lot of different sounds and different kinds of vocalists here, but it's pretty fun."

Christina Prior of Yakima was the big winner.  She sang "Mercy on Me" by Christina Aguilera to take home the $1,000 prize.

Sophia Tilley and Nicole Johnson won the junior and teen divisions, respectively.  They each got $300.
