YAKIMA, Wash. - The Yakima Fire Department is investigating the cause of a fire that started early Monday morning creating almost $300,000 in damage.

Firefighters responded to a report of a brush fire around 2:20 a.m. in the 7900 block of Englewood Crest Dr., they say the fire had already spread to the house by then.

Yakima Fire Battalion Chief Mitch Cole says strong winds made conditions more challenging for them to handle.

"That's what really messed us up on this fire," he said.  "We weren't able to get the stop that we would have normally gotten, I estimate that the wind up here when we arrived was 25 to 35 miles per hour."

The total damage to the home is estimated at about $250,000 for the house and another $35,000 in property damage.

The family was not harmed in the fire and is getting help from the Red Cross.
