Prosecutor Concerned About Witnesses

Pasco, WA- The Franklin County prosecutor is worried about the safety of witnesses in an upcoming murder trial.

16-year-old Christopher Ruesga is being tried as an adult for shooting and killing a man during a fight between rival gang members.

Prosecutor Steve Lowe is worried his witnesses could become targets if their names and addresses fall into the hands of gang members.

Ruesga's attorney says he needs the list to prepare his defense. Jim Egan put it this way: "I'm not a drive-by shooter and only me and my client are going to see it."

Right now Judge Craig Matheson is only allowing the defense attorney to come to the prosecutor's office and take notes, but not allowing him to make copies of  photographs and addresses, and he has told Egan to be careful with the information.

Ruesga's trial is scheduled for September.
