Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash. -- A woman is dead now after suffering a gunshot wound to the head earlier this morning. Yakima Sheriffs say a couple was shot after allegedly picking up a hitchhiker.

Sheryl Huntley of Montana, age 40, was shot in the head. Steven Harwood was shot in the hand. Huntley once lived in Yakima and has relatives in the area.

Harwood told police he stopped to pick up a hitchhiker near a rest area on I-82, but the suspect robbed the couple, and ended up firing a gun when Harwood tried to stop him.

The suspect fled and police are looking for him. He was described as a Hispanic male, around 20 years old. He's about 5'6" tall and skinny. His head was shaved but he had a longer bit of hair across the forehead. He had a scar over his left eye and a "sharp" jaw line. He was wearing a red bandana, white T-shirt, navy blue Dickies pants and two diamond stud earrings.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call the Yakima Sheriff's Office at (509)574-2500.
