the 4th Annual Cardboard Boat Race on the Columbia

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash - For the past 4 years people have been racing cardboard boats on the Columbia river to help raise funds for Crime Stoppers.

Awards are given for the fastest boat to cross the finish line.

This year on the 4th of July we will see a new event.

You can  build your own cardboard boat on the day of the race.

You'll be given  a precut boat kit, a bottle of glue, one roll of duct tape and two hours to complete your project.

Or if you'd can just watch.

"People have the opportunity to view the boats and then also vote for what we call the pride of the fleet..which is the people's choice award." Explains Mike Blatman with Crime Stoppers.

You can register at the event for seventy five dollars if you want the boat kit.
     $35 for all other participants.

You will need to bring your own life jackets and paddles.
