KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Kennewick police have three new hi-tech members joining their force.
Cameras mounted on the roof of one KPD crusier scans every licence plate it passes and makes sure the vehicle isn't stolen. A grant from the state paid for the camera devices, which cost around thirtythousand dollars.
The cameras are used only to find cars that are linked to serious offenses and do not display personal information.
Washington has one of the highest car theft rates in the country, and while car theft is down this year, thanks in part to increased technology spending to fight the crime.
