YAKIMA--A 20-year old Yakima man is in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center after a shooting early Saturday morning.
Police say the victim and the suspect are members of rival gangs.
Witnesses told KNDO that the suspect, 25-year-old Benjamin Lopez of Yakima, asked the victim, Daniel Perez, for his name.
Witnesses said Lopez shot Perez when he refused to say who he was.
Yakima police responded to a house in the 1300 block of Swan Avenue around 5:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
Police say the two men are members of rival gangs.
Witnesses say Lopez shot Perez once in the chest, then again in the leg.
Police found Lopez hiding at a home on the 1100 block of North Naches Avenue. He surrended without a fight. But, Lopez wasn't all they found.
"While searching for that, we found some stolen property in the house and some narcotics," Det. Kasey Hampton, Yakima Police Department, said.
Hampton wouldn't specify what drugs were found, or the quantity.
He also says they found several weapons in the home, but he wouldn't say if they found the gun used in the crime.
Lopez will face charges of attempted murder, assault, burglary, and for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
