Kennewick-We're only three days away from the first action on the river for this year's boat races. The event is great for the local economy--just ask motel managers.
If you know someone coming to the Tri-Cities from out of town, they may have a hard time finding a hotel. Many hotel chains like the Red Lion in Richland and Kennewick are thrilled about the increase in business the races bring.
But the chances of securing a stay there are slim because like many others, the Red Lion is booked to capacity. "You could go on a waiting list," said Ian Napier, General Manager of Red Lion. "But the two hotels in Richland and Kennewick are full."
As many as five thousand people come into the Tri-Cities area for the race. And despite some hotels being full many still have plenty of room.
"We have found that the Water Follies doesn't absorb all of the guest rooms throughout the Tri-Cities region," said Kris Watkins, President and CEO of Tri-Cities Vistor and Convention Bureau. "But it definitely fills a good percentage of them," she said.
The best piece of advice is to tell your friends or family to get reservations right away.
