YAKIMA, Wash. - The Yakima Bears (11-20) erased an early 3-0 deficit thanks to big, two-run doubles from Clayton Conner and Brent Greer to defeat the Vancouver Canadians (12-19) 7-5 at County Stadium Tuesday night, clinching the five-game series.
Conner drove a double into the right-field power alley to score two and tie the game at three in the bottom of the third inning.
Later, with the score tied at four in the sixth inning, Greer laced a two-bagger down the left field line, scoring two and ultimately three as Gerson Montilla would come home due to a throwing error on Vancouver left fielder Rashun Dixon.
Will Harvil (1-1) tossed 2 1/3 innings of one-run ball out of the bullpen on five hits, striking out one and walking two to earn the victory. Jorge Arrioja (0-1) pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief, allowing two earned on four hits to absorb the loss. Brad Wilson closed out the game, allowing one run in two innings to record his first save of the season.
The Bears and Canadians will be back at it Wednesday night for the series finale at 7:05. Ricardo Taveras (0-1, 4.02 ERA) is slated to pitch for Yakima against Dan Straily (1-2, 6.07 ERA) for Vancouver.
