TRI-CITIES 2009: Steve David in the U-1 Oh Boy! Oberto/Miss Madison win the Dash for Cash
Kennewick, WASH - The Friday exhibition race has become a fan favorite and a great way to set the stage for the more serious racing that starts with heat racing on Saturday.
Steve David, the fastest qualifier of the day, started out in lane four. Brian Perkins in the U-48 was in lane 3. Jeff Bernard in the U-5 got lane 1 and J. Michael Kelly had lane 2 in the U-7.
David wired the start on the outside and led the group across the start line, but Bernard grabbed the lead coming out of the first turn. After lap one, it turned into a three boat race between the U-1, U-5 & U-7.
The drivers put on a great exhibition for the fans, keeping all four boats in the hunt for the win into the final lap. Steve David grabbed a roostertail lead, but on the outside he had to really gun it to get to the finish line. The U-7, U-5 and U-48 all had a shot at the end, but David grabbed the lead. Kelly nosed out the U-5 at the finish, but just barely.
