YAKIMA, Wash. - Yakima Police said Sunday the victim in a drive-by shooting late Saturday night was himself a suspect in another shooting over a week ago.
They continued their investigation without identifying any suspects in the shooting that injured an 18-year-old man in the lower back on the 300 block of S. 6th Street.
Police believe both shootings are gang-related and therefore are closely watching the area where they happened.
Sgt. Chad Stephens says this is not a reason for residents in the area to be more concerned about their safety.
"These suspects and victims interchange from week to week," he said. "So they're not focusing on just random citizens that are just going about their daily lives."
The victim's name hasn't been released and police did not have an update on the victim's condition, as of Sunday afternoon. But they say his injury was not life-threatening.
Officers also said the witnesses in front of the yard Saturday night were uncooperative in their investigation.
They did say the suspects left the area in a dark colored sedan and are looking to the public for more information on this shooting.
