PASCO, Wash. - As wildfire season continues, insurance companies are ramping up inspections of homes, businesses and properties in wildfire prone areas.
Insurance agents are wanting to protect homes and businesses and are coming around to see if property owners are doing what they can to be protected if a wildfire comes close.
It's recommended to have a safe greenbelt around the property, clean off roofs and gutters. Insurance companies will give property owners time to fix any unnecessary risks, but if insurance agents see these things aren't taken care of, property owners could face higher premiums.
"If customers don't take the necessary actions, or don't follow the requirements of their insurance companies, they could find their premiums increase or in some cases, they may find their insurance canceled."
Other potential hazards inspectors look for are dead or diseased trees, and whether or not buildings have fire-resistant roofs.
