Bills Take Effect to Outline Homeowner's Insurance Coverage
KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Two new bills aim to inform homeowners that the must purchase flood insurance separately, and if they want flood insurance they must get it from the National Flood Insurance program.
The state's Insurance Commissioner, Mike Kreidler propsed the bills after seeing many people get a double blow from the last flooding of the Yakima River. Not only did some lose everything, but they were shocked to learn they had no insurance coverage for floods. Now whenever you renew or purchase new home insurance, companies must make it clear, this will not cover floods.
Kreidler also says that around eight percent of flood victims in the Yakima River flood knew they didn't have any flood coverage. For more information, visit www.floodsmart.gov or call 1-888-379-9531.
