Fending off Swine Flu in the Mid Columbia

Posted: Updated:
Kennewick, WA- We should know by the end of the week how local health workers plan to tackle the swine flu this winter.

The Benton Franklin Health District is waiting to hear from the Washington State Health Department how much of the H1N1 vaccine will be coming to the Mid-Columbia.

Unlike other flu viruses, which target older people, the majority of swine flu cases nationwide have been younger people under 25.

Health workers say they're considering going school to school this fall offering to give children the swine flu vaccine.

Health workers say all children and young adults should get the swine flu shot this winter along with the regular seasonal flu shot.

The health district says the H1N1 vaccine should be available in late fall, probably around Thanksgiving.
