RICHLAND, Wash -As temperatures heat up in the Pacific Northwest, the American Red Cross is seeing a huge decrease in blood donation appointments.

The summer months are normally challenging for blood collections due to vacations and other activities.

But, since the heat has hit, there are even less people donating.

"The odds of over fifty percent of people not showing up for a drive are very good right now and that's really hurting us. So, we desperately need people to really keep their appointments if they're going to make them. We need more people to make appointments... We really need the help through august." Says Lisa Gallegos of American Red Cross.

Gallegos says she understands people feel short on time. But says to remember, if you were in need of blood to save your life,  you would hope someone would take the time to donate for you.
