YAKIMA, Wash. -- According to Yakima Firefighters, lightning was likely the cause of a fire that burned a 200 x 200 foot log pile at a lumber mill Thursday night.
Numerous people told firefighters they saw a bolt of lightning strike near a log deck at the Yakima Resources Mill around 10 p.m. Firefighters successfully kept the fire from spreading to other log piles.
Firefighters were delayed briefly when they had a difficult time 'securing a hydrant'. The monetary loss for the mill has yet to be determined.
