YAKIMA--Three men are behind bars for shooting an unarmed teen, then leading police on a high speed chase through downtown Yakima.
Officers on emphasis patrols on East E Street heard gunshots around 11:00 p.m. Friday.
911 calls led them to the Saint Francis Apartments on the corner of North Naches Ave. and E Street.
Blood stains were still evident on the sidewalk outside the building on Saturday.
Police found a 17-year-old boy who had been shot in the arm.
Officers found the suspects a few blocks away and chased them down South First Street going as fast as 85 miles per hour.
Police disabled the car with a spike strip and quickly arrested the suspects. Police say all three are gang members.
One witness is tired of seeing this happen.
"I'd like to see more of the gang enforcements officers in my neighborhood," Mike Daily said. The shooting happened right outside his bedroom window. "[We need to] give police more of the right to stop somebody."
Daily said recent emphasis patrols have made a difference, but he thinks the area needs more.
The victim's wound is not considered life-threatening.
