Heat 3A

Jimmy King in the U-3 won Heat 2A in lane one, but Dave Villwock in the U-16 had lane one for Heat 3B with King in lane two.  That brought an added level of excitement to Heat 3A.  Dr. Ken made the debut of the brand new U-25.

  2. U-3 Grandview on the Lake - Jimmy King
  3. U-17 USNW Express - Kip Brown
  4. U-100 Mirage Boats - Greg Hopp
  5. U-9 Jones Racing - David Williams
  6. U-25 Buffalo Savings - Ken Muscatel

Dave Villwock grabbed the lead at the start and held it through the corner, lengthening out a significant lead on the backstretch over Jimmy King.  After the first lap, he had about a roostertail lead.  Greg Hopp settled into third in the U-100.

The U-9 died on lap one.

King stayed close to Villwock the rest of the way, but never really challenged.  Still, a great weekend so far for the U-3 Cooper team and a trip to the finals.

"That's what fun about this format.  It's a boat race the whole time," said Villwock on KIRO-TV.  "We're just going to try to win."

"We wanted to run conservative on the last heat and get some points, just setting the stage for the final."

"This is going to be a fast boat," said Ken Muscatel on KIRO-TV.  "We wanted to stay on the outside and take it easy, but it's going to be fun."

Greg Hopp in the U-100 was given a 150 point penalty for lane encroachment.

"I'm having the time of my life.  I'm 55 and at the peak.  Like a nice fine Cabarnet."
