The city of Yakima is gearing up for National Night Out (NNO) Tuesday.
Local leaders reminded everyone to participate in the event at Monday's city media briefing. Yakima is one of many cities that will be hosting NNO events.
Council member Bill Lover says this is a chance to strengthen our neighborhoods.
"It's time to take back our streets and this is just a small indication that we can," he said. "This is a meet your neighbor, let's watch our for each other [event] that's basically what these are about."
The event is being organized by Citizens for Safe Yakima Valley Communities, they hope to raise awareness about local crime and encourage community involvement in programs working to keep the community safe.
Tuesday's city council meeting will be at 2:00 p.m. so they can take part in NNO events.
