The Empty A Street Lot Will be Developed into a Park
YAKIMA, Wash.- City council members decided to develop the empty lot on A Street into a community park. The historic A Street building was demolished back in March.
Council members voted six to one to beautify this area as a part of the Future Downtown Initiative. Council members say adding a park here will help improve the city's image and attract more people downtown.
"It's going to help develop more shops, stores, boutiques and that's something we all need," said Councilwoman Kathy Coffey.
The City of Yakima will pay for the street improvements and additions over a three-year period. Council members hope to add flowers, benches, and even a stage to this space.
