KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Neighbors and police officers gathered Tuesday night for National Night Out. It's an annual event where everyone gathers to get to know who lives next to you and the officers who patrol your neighborhood.
Kennewick Police Department held a big event at Park Middle School in Kennewick. They had hot dogs, a dunk tank, a bounce house, police cars and fire trucks on display, and of course a place for neighbors to mingle.
Sergeant Ken Lattin says knowing your neighbor could help you. He explains, "The goal is to get neighbors to come out and meet each other. If you know your neighbor, you know what their schedules are, you can look out for each other. That's going to make your neighborhood more crime free."
Residents in Pasco also held block parties. Neighbors came out to meet each other, kids got to make new friends, and officers stopped by.
