Fatal collision blocking Hwy 395
SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. - Emergency crews responded to the scene of a fatal two car head-on collision on Hwy. 395 at mile post 177, three miles south of Deer Park that happened just before noon on Sunday.
The Washington State Patrol says 79-year-old Ila M Hirsh of Colville was driving a 2004 Jeep Liberty southbound on Hwy. 395, when she traveled off the road to the right then over-corrected causing her to cross the center line and drive into the northbound lane striking an oncoming 1992 Dodge Ram pickup head-on.
The driver of the Dodge Ram, 53-year-old Edward Williams of Spangle, was pinned inside the vehicle for 45 minutes and had to be extricated by rescue crews. He was flown by Medstar to Sacred Heart Medical Center with critical injuries.
A female passenger in the pickup, 38-year-old Cynthia Fowler of Spangle, was transported to the Holy Family Hospital, also with critical injuries.
Officers on scene said 12-year-old Vincent Fowler, who was also a passenger in the vehicle, did not appear to be seriously injured. He was also transported by Ambulance to Holy Family Hospital.
Ila Hirsh, driver of the Jeep Liberty, was the only person in her vehicle and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The roadway was fully blocked for about three hours due to the collision.
The Washington State Patrol says drugs or alcohol were not involved.
