Warehouse fire considered suspicious

Posted: Updated:

TIETON--A warehouse burns to the ground and firefighters aren't sure why.

An unused warehouse on the 600 block of Schraeder road was not connected to a power source, but it still caught fire around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

Firefighters got there fast, but couldn't fight it right away:  the closest hydrant was a half-mile down the road.

That wasn't the only problem.  Crews also had to battle high winds.

"The wind was blowing probably 40 miles per hour and carrying embers probably at least a half-mile away," Asst. Chief Jon Hall, Highland Fire Department, said.  "We had to have a couple units behind us [to] take care of the grass fires."

According to Hall, Talia Orchards owns the warehouse and they did have insurance.

Damages are estimated at $70,000.

Investigators will be on scene Monday morning to try to figure out what started the fire.
