Washington's prepaid tuition program has recovered

SEATTLE, Wash. - Thanks to a record number of new enrollments at the same time the stock market was bottoming out, Washington's prepaid tuition program is doing well.

The assets of the Guaranteed Education Tuition program had dropped to 2007 levels this past spring. But GET program director Betty Lochner says record numbers of parents also joined the program this past spring.

The combination of record enrollments and a stock market that is now recovering has helped the GET program's assets improve as well. Lochner says the GET program has now come out of two economic downturns in good financial shape.

When the program's board met earlier this month, they confirmed the $101 unit price. New enrollments begin Sept. 15.
