YAKIMA, Wash. -- Suspect in Tuesday's robbery at the Sterling Savings Bank in Ellensburg is in police custody tonight.
Yakima officers assisted Ellensburg police in locating David Heimbigner, who was arrested in Yakima this afternoon.
Detectives discovered on August 11th, at around 1:25pm, Heimbigner entered the bank at 5th and Main Streets in Ellensburg.
Police said Heimbigner presented a note to a teller instructing her to place money in a bag he was carrying. Police said Heimbigner then took off on foot.
A citizen witness observed Heimbigner enter a vehicle to continue his flight from the scene. This vehicle was later found abandoned on I-82 between Ellensburg and Yakima. Detectives interviewed another witness, which revealed Heimbigner was picked up on I-82 by a passerby and dropped off at an AM/PM on Yakima Ave in Yakima.
Heimbigner will be taken to the Kittitas County Corrections Center on 1st degree robbery and 2nd degree theft charges.
