Spokane Valley man arrested for girlfriend's murder

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash.- Sheriff's Detectives have arrested a 19-year-old Spokane Valley man for the homicide of his pregnant 33-year-old girlfriend Saturday night.  According to the Spokane Sheriff's Office, Robbie W. Bishop was booked into the Spokane County Jail on a Second-Degree Murder charge about 2 a.m. Sunday.

Officers were dispatched to the victim's home in the 900 block of North Bowman after a relative called 911 about 7:43 p.m. and reported that Bishop had called and claimed to have killed his girlfriend.

Once the home was surrounded, officers began attempting to contact the occupants by using both a patrol car public address speaker and a cellular phone.  When they got no response after repeated attempts, they entered the home and found the woman dead on the living room floor.

Blood evidence on the scene indicated the suspect had fled out the back of the home, and officers then searched the victim's sister's home which is the adjacent residence to the south.

Unable to locate a suspect at the victim's sister's home, officers began trying to determine where the victim's boyfriend might have gone.  Major crimes detectives were called to take over the homicide investigation.

Around 9:40 p.m. a resident reported a man hiding in a boat about two blocks north of the victim's home where the street dead-ends at the freeway.  Bishop jumped from the boat and ran to the west.

Officer Brian Hirzel was searching the area and noticed loose skirting on a manufactured home in the 7300 block of East Cataldo.  He looked inside and spotted the top of the suspect's head.  He and other officers quickly took Bishop into custody.

A Spokane Sheriff's spokesperson says Investigation into the homicide is ongoing.  The identity of the victim will be withheld until release by the Spokane County Medical Examiner.

Detectives have recovered weapons believed used by Bishop in the murder, but cause of death will not be released until after autopsy.
