Kennewick Community Credit Union changing name & expanding
KENNEWICK, Wash.-- A small Kennewick Credit Union is opening its doors to new members and changing its name. Kennewick Community Federal Credit Union is becoming Tri-Cities Community Federal Credit Union.
The credit union had to get approval from its board of directors, then approval from the federal government. Now, anyone living or working in Benton or Franklin counties can be a member. Before, it was only open to people who live or work in Kennewick.
Doug Wadsworth, President of Tri-Cities Credit Union, says long-time employees thought of the idea because they hated denying people. He explains, "Sometimes we'll get several over a week or a month, and we'll have to turn them down. So, I imagine there's not going to be a huge difference, but now, when people do want to take advantage of our great loan rates or our free checking, we don't have to say no. We can say 'Sure, we'd love to have you as a member.'"
The signs will be changed over the next few weeks. Right now, the credit union has only one branch on West Kennewick Avenue near Highway 395, but hope to expand in the next few years.
