PASCO, Wash.-- The federal stimulus train keeps chugging along. Now comes the State Appliance Rebate Program, which could give you two hundred dollars back when get rid of old appliances like these refrigerators and dishwashers for new ones.
The Department of Energy is giving out three hundred million dollars to states to give to consumers who buy new energy saving appliances. KNDU talked with our Department of Commerce today and they say the details haven't been set, but the rebate will come from your utility company.
"They'll mail a copy of their receipt to their utility," said Chuck Murray, Senior Energy Policy Specialist for the Washington State Dept. of Commerce. "[Utilities] will combine whatever rebate they offer with the state incentive, and they'll send you a check."
The state is getting a little over six million for the program, or one dollar for every person. Now before you run out to your local big box, the program won't be in full swing until late November.
