NEAR SUNNYSIDE -- Fans of the recently burned Silver Dollar Cafe say they'll greatly miss it's convenient location. There aren't to many people who live near the restaurant just outside Sunnyside. Many go there as they're passing by.
It burned down Friday when the nearly 50-thousand acre Hanford fire spread to the cafe. Several people were in the cafe at the time and didn't realize how close the fire was getting to the restaurant.
John Duggan, who lives near the Silver Dollar said, "The valley filled up with fire and the wind took it straight out to the Silver Dollar before anybody was able to act. It just took it." Duggan also says he had to convince the owner to leave the restaurant.
Several firefighters were also in there just minutes before the fire reached the cafe. But the building was not in a fire district, meaning firefighters technically did not have any legal responsibility for the loss of the cafe.
Regulars say it will be missed. It was the only restaurant within miles.
