Washington DSHS sending out Medicaid ID cards

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - The state Department of Social and Health Services says it will be notifying its 1 million Medicaid clients in the next few days they will be getting a new plastic identification card in the mail.

The ID card will be mailed in November to prepare for a new computer payment system called ProviderOne that will start reimbursing doctors and other medical providers on Dec. 6.

The card will replace paper coupons that now cost the state more than $2.5 million a year to mail out each month to 900,000 medical assistance clients and 100,000 family planning clients. Doctors and clinics will use the plastic Services Card to determine if a patient is enrolled in Medicaid.
