Benton County Sheriff's in charge for neglected horses

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.--  Benton County is called on from time to time to investigate horse neglect cases.

They will send out a staff member who has extensive experience with horses to review the case and talk with a vet. They work with owners to get the animals healthy. They try hard not to take horses from their owners. Mostly because the county has  nowhere to put them.

The sheriff's office has ranchers in the area to take in horses as a last resort. The sheriff's office also told us exposed ribs and bowed backs isn't necessarily indicitive of poor health.
