CHENEY, Wash. - Eastern Washington, still waiting to hear from the NCAA whether they'll be able to play in the postseason, is set kick off a new season on Saturday.
The team still hasn't heard from an NCAA appeals committee whether it will lift the postseason ban that was imposed for violations that occurred during the Paul Wulff era.
But ban or no ban, the Eagles are ready to put the pads on and hit someone else for a change.
"We just have to come out and play our game," said safety Kevin Hatch. "We can't play down any levels or anything like that. If we come out focused, I think we're going to have a really good year."
"We've put in a lot of work over the last nine months since the last season ended," added quarterback Matt Nichols. "I think that just as a team we're more prepared - physically and mentally - and ready for the season."
Saturday's season opener kicks off at Noon in Cheney. The game can be seen live on SWX, with KHQ's Sam Adams and Bill Ames calling the action.
