YAKIMA--This weekend is your last chance for a summer holiday getaway, but are prices at the pump keeping people at home?
Travel agency AAA said the average price of one gallon of regular unleaded gas costs 2.94 in Yakima.
That's about the same as the July Fourth weekend, but down 15 cents since a month ago.
We're nowhere near the $4-a-gallon nightmare of last year, but AAA expects less travel this weekend because of bad timing, not bad prices.
"Labor Day this year falls after school has already started so we believe that a lot of families already back into a regular school routine," AAA spokesperson Cassie Devaney said. "The timing of the holiday is a little bit inconvenient."
Devaney said over the last two years, people have generally refrained from summer vacations. Then, when Labor Day weekend arrives, many just can't resist that final chance to get out of the house for a few days.
If you do leave town you'll see similar gas prices all over Washington, the average price statewide is $2.92 a gallon, only a couple cents higher than here in Yakima.
