A confusing political message has been written in graffiti on the new Bethlehem Lutheran school site.
Police say they don't know who tagged the school with graffiti or even why. All we know right now is what it says: separate church and state.
What has so many confused is the school is privately funded and doesn't get any government assistance.
One kennewick officer says it was likely a kid with a political agenda. Whatever the reason, it's going to cost crews about 2500 dollars to clean it up. Tonight the lingering questions are not only who did it, but why they would write that message.
"We're unsure where it came from," building committe chairman Carol Clark said. "It's obviously not your typical tagger. The church doesn't receive any government money or any stimulus or anything. All we do is get an exemption from property taxes. Our students pay tuition as well as taxes for the public school."
The building is still under construction and is expected to open next year. Anyone with information about the graffiti is asked to call Kennewick police.
