Sign up by Tuesday for free pesticide disposal next month
The Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) is collecting unwanted pesticides from the public and disposing of them for free next month but to take part in the service, anyone interested must sign up by Tuesday, Sept. 8.
The event in Prosser is returning after a positive result last year. The department collected more than 127,000 pounds of unwanted pesticides in 2008 and 21,000 pounds came from the free disposal alone.
WSDA is asking farmers, businesses, residents, and property owners to look around for chemicals they no longer need or want. It's an important service in light of an illegal dumpsite found in Grandview. The EPA found more products late last month and has been investigating that site since March.
