Driver calls lead to DUI arrests in Washington over holiday weekend
KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Holiday weekends are notorious for drunk drivers, and State Patrol Troopers wanted your help spotting them this Labor Day Weekend. They wanted you to pick up your cell phone and call 911 if you saw someone driving erratically, speeding, or swerving.
Statewide, Troopers responded to nearly 50 calls from drivers who saw someone they thought was drunk. Of those, 19 were drunk drivers, and six others resulted in arrests for warrants or drugs, or were written tickets. Locally, no calls resulted in DUIs, but Troopers want to say thank you to everyone who reported suspicious activity.
Troopers also teamed up with Richland police to make 15 DUI arrests in the Richland area over the three day weekend.
There were no fatal or serious injury accidents in the Tri-Cities, but there were three statewide. Drugs or alcohol are suspected in two out of those three. Oregon State Police say there was only one fatal accident in Oregon this weekend.
