WA Senators and Representatives Speak Out About Health Care
KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Local members of Congress are reacting to President Obama's speech about health care. Washington Democratic U.S. Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, as well as Republican 4th District Rep. Doc Hastings all attended the speech.
Sen. Murray believes that with President Obama's plan, "health care decisions will be put back in the hands of patients and their doctors." She explains, "I support the President's vision of a public plan."
Sen. Cantwell also spoke about a public plan, saying "I will be fighting to include a public option at every phase of the debate- as a member of the finance committee and on the Senate floor."
Rep. Hastings has a much different view from the two Democratic Senators. He says, "The public option is what I believe will lead to a government run plan, and I think that certainly causes me some problems."
