Cougs D Gets Torn Up in 38-20 Loss to Hawaii

SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Washington State Cougars' defense made the Hawaii Warriors look like top-ranked Florida in Saturday's 38-20 loss in Seattle.

The Cougs now have to pick up the pieces as they take on 2-0 Southern Methodist this Saturday. The Cougs have never faced the Mustangs before.

The Cougs say turnovers killed them against Hawaii.

"Whenever you have five turnovers in one half, you're never going to beat anybody at any level," said Cougar Head Coach Paul Wulff.

"The seven turnovers killed us," said Quarterback Kevin Lopina. "I mean, that's what we did last year, turn the ball over and we can't have that."

"We have lost some games over the years and the toughest thing that we have got to overcome right now as a staff is convince these kids that they can win football games," said Coug Co-Defensive Coordinator Chris Ball.
